As expected, incoming reform looks like it will be very closely aligned to the changes that were rolled out in the public sector, aside from a couple of small differences.
I would like to point out, however, that Qdos, like many others, strongly disagrees with IR35 reform. We see it as a short-sighted measure from the Government that does not guarantee increased IR35 compliance by any stretch of the imagination.
But we are confident that these changes - albeit unnecessary and challenging - can be managed. Contrary to many reports, we believe that with the right education and guidance, private sector firms can continue to engage contractors outside IR35 beyond April 2020.
Granted, as a contractor, you will not be in charge of setting your own IR35 status in years to come, but that is not to say you cannot work with your client to achieve the right outcome.
While speculation that several financial services companies are planning to offer contractors ultimatums is concerning, these workers should take heart from the fact that through our work with private sector companies, Qdos has noticed that many businesses are equipping themselves with the skills and expertise to make accurate IR35 decisions that will allow them to operate outside the legislation from April 2020 and beyond.
