"Awareness days are always a positive way to draw attention to the importance of retirement planning, particularly for younger workers, who have time on their side to build up a reasonable pension pot."
However Rick Chan, financial planner and director at IFS Wealth and Pensions, said that having one day dedicated solely to pension awareness would only be so effective.
He said: "Pensions are only one part of the retirement puzzle and people need to be assessing their wealth way before retirement.
"People need to look at savings, investments and pensions as part of their retirement planning. I am not sure how effective it is just having one day dedicated to pensions because, while they are important, they are only one part of the process. It is always important to have financial advice as part of this."
