Momentum ups UK reach with Pennine deal

North was acquired by Liontrust last year and Mr Husselbee was appointed head of multi-asset at the company, but he has retained the Pennine mandates as well as launching new discretionary model portfolios on the Standard Life Wrap platform, which are soon to be rolled out to other platforms.

Mr Husselbee’s career in multi-manager products has also seen him run funds for Henderson Global Investors and City Financial, which has since hired Mark Harris (right) to run its multi-asset funds.

James Klempster runs Momentum’s three Factor Series funds and will also be responsible for the management of the four new models being launched for Pennine Wealth Solutions. The group has a long history of creating bespoke portfolios for clients in Asia and South Africa, where it has its roots as a company, but this is the first time Momentum has ventured into model portfolios in the UK.

He described his investment process as investing “through the cycle” using “traditional” asset classes. The manager said he was “broadly constructive” on equity markets and was using equity products to help the highest-risk model portfolio meet its CPI plus 6 per cent return target.

Mr Klempster has worked at Momentum since 2007, and was previously a portfolio manager at Avebury Asset Management.
