Diary of an adviser: Gary Jefferies

Friday

Today is an office day. Fortunately with the aid of modern technology and back-office systems we are able to deliver a competitive service without always having to be personally present in the office, but today I do have various matters to attend to. I have a couple of lengthy suitability reports to finalise, one for a client using her open market option to buy an enhanced annuity from her drawdown scheme and another, a trust fund that has recently been finalised. Before the end of the week I have a meeting to review the portfolio of a long-standing couple who sold their business around 10 years ago. We discuss their recent cruises and I listen with envy. Once we have established their current requirements we decide to retain their unit-linked whole life plan for the time being. We adjust the level of income they are receiving from their Isas and investments to around the all share index yield without significantly altering the balance of their portfolio. That is it for another week. Hopefully I can avoid reading the business emails at the weekend.
